Recommendation site Qype and travel portal Lastminute.com have teamed up to produce two new location-based mobile apps for the iPhone and Google's Android platform.
The nru - pronounced 'near you' - app from Lastminute.com makes use of Qype's open API to enable Android users to search for user reviews and recommendations on bars, theatres and other venues close by.
Qype Radar for the iPhone and Android system also provides integrated user reviews based on the user's location for restaurants, shops, hotels and more across 15,000 towns and cities around the world.
It is the first time the app has been made available for Android following its initial success on the iPhone, for which 50,000 downloads have been recorded to date.
"Both nru and Radar offer the perfect marriage of cutting-edge location-based technology and the credibility of over 700,000 user reviews," said Stephen Taylor, chief executive of Qype.
Qype Radar also lets users bookmark their favourite places and sync with Google Maps.
