A beta version of Opera Mini 5 has been released, providing a new consideration for mobile web design.
The company says the browser will offer faster internet speeds because the browser compresses pages by up to 90 per cent.
Dag Olav Norem, vice president of products for Opera Software, said: "Android users should not have to compromise when it comes to surfing the web on their phones.
"Opera Mini will give Android users a fast and cost-efficient access to their favorite web sites and services."
Anything that speeds up the internet on mobile devices will surely be welcomed by web developers as one of the key issues until now has been slow loading times, especially when out of the range of a Wi-Fi signal.
With a raft of devices hitting or about to hit the market, and a boom in the number of applications available on the platform, Android has enjoyed considerable success recently.
