A travel insurance company used social media tools to get people sharing links and increase traffic after bespoke web development.
A case study on Marketing Sherpa explains how World Nomads, which sells products in over 150 countries, improved the way its site was promoted.
The website already had one share button across its pages. However, to further optimize this, it redesigned them so that there were separate sharing buttons for each tool, such as Facebook and Twitter.
Before doing this, the company had already checked the data to see exactly which sharing tools were most popular so that they could be listed, while the more obscure sharing tools could also be used from an extra list.
World Nomad's community manager, Christy McCarthy, explained why the single button was replaced by multiple buttons.
She told Marketing Sherpa: "We knew that people were using it somewhat. We thought if we made it easier for them that they might use it more."
Social networking widget creator Gigya recently said that Facebook was the most popular service for sharing links, followed by Twitter.
