Android could become the dominant platform for mobile devices, if a new prediction is to be believed.
In an article on the Register looking at situation in the ultra portable market, where Apple is soon to release the iPad, a number of experts opine on the potential of Android.
According to Meinolf Althaus, mobile clients sector director of product strategy at Fujitsu, the operating system will take a large part of the market because of its open source qualities and the fact that it is free.
He said: "Android will be mainstream, taking over a major portion of OS usage on devices intended to consume, rather than create, data."
The expansion of Android into netbooks and tablets would certainly be welcome in the world of mobile application development as it would open up further opportunities for businesses and developers.
Archos recently announced two new tablet devices, the Archos 7 and 8, that run on the Android platform.
With Wi-Fi connectivity, they can display multimedia content and facilitate the use of thousands of applications available on Android Market.
