A mobile communication expert has predicted what types of mobile applications for business will prove popular over the next five years.
Telecommunications operator Orange believes applications that may prove useful include those for augmented reality, office synchronisation, personal health monitoring and personal identification.
According to Anthony Keyworth, director of products at Orange UK, applications could help to blur the lines between the physical and digital worlds over the next five years.
He said: "Technologies we had only dreamt of are now a reality and play a vital role in our everyday working lives.
"These developments are testimony to the future potential of the mobile industry and applications in the business world moving forward."
Mobile application development has been boosted by a number of developments recently in the mobile communications industry.
The release of the iPad has led to an explosion of interest in the tablet market and with Android devices now on the way, it could be an area of interest for developers.
Android has also proved to be a popular platform on smartphones with approximately 60,000 handsets being sold every day.
